Thank you for visiting my website. I'm Mark Ellison, a nature photographer based in the north-west of England with a passion for wildlife and wild places.
I I first got into “proper” photography around twenty years ago, when digital SLRs became both affordable and capable of producing high-quality images. I also found myself with a little disposable income to invest in a hobby that, until then, I’d only really dabbled in.
My granddad was a talented amateur bird artist who created beautiful paintings using photographs and bird guide illustrations as references. I’m pretty sure he played a big part in sparking my interest in nature and wildlife from an early age.
As I gradually invested in longer lenses, I discovered just how much I enjoyed capturing those fleeting, often unpredictable moments that make wildlife photography so rewarding. I also came to appreciate the time spent afterwards processing and editing images, bringing out the details and atmosphere of each encounter.
I’ve been lucky enough to visit some incredible places, including the holy grail of wildlife photography destinations, Kenya’s Masai Mara, and, more recently, the frozen landscapes of Iceland in search of Arctic foxes. It’s somewhere I’m already planning to return to before too long!
Despite these adventures, I think my real passion lies closer to home, in the wildlife of the UK, particularly Scotland. I’ve visited the Isle of Mull more times than I can remember, returning time and again to photograph one of my favourite subjects: the otter. It’s an incredible place, and one I never tire of exploring.
Through this website, I hope to share some of my favourite images, showcase my latest work and keep the blog updated with the occasional ramble about photography, wildlife and the places I visit along the way.
Thanks for stopping by. If you have any comments or questions, or would like to chat about photography or share a few tips and ideas, I’d love to hear from you. Just use the contact link at the top of the page to drop me a message.
